Question: What do you thinjk the significance of the silver machine Dumbledore uses when explaining Harry’s past is? And does anybody understand the smoke and the phrase “BUt in essence divided?” I was rather confused by all of this and if somebody can explai this to me, it would be great. theories welcome too.

  5. Scott from Modesto says:

  6. Wanda from Walnetto says:

Ron is killed by Harry. It’s an accident. Harry and Hermonie leave school and live in a caravan in the Dursleys driveway on Privet Drive. It turns out that a Privet is a magical animal with the power to control the plant world.

In other news, today JK Rowling announced that she was leaving her husband, Dr. whomever, and moving into a caravan but would not reveal the locatoin.

In a noon time appearance, Pope Ratzy announced that living in a carvan was an abomoniation against the almighty.

  7. Sillie Billie says:

What’s a caravan? Isn’t it Pope Ratzinger? What is cheese?

  10. Victor says:

i just finished reading it (2:30am) and yeah Snape kills dumbledore.Draco Malfoy becomes a death eater. Snape is a mudblood. Harry and Ginny have a short lived relationship (4-5 chapters) Hermione and Ron hook up together some mysterious person with initials RAB (read the book)good read worth $30

  11. RAB says:

Regulus A.(middle name not mentioned) Black

  12. Winyael says:

I pre-ordered mine and just finished with it. People are actually queueing up over night for it in Singapore…

Awful awful tragic end which made my heart fill so heavy at the end of it. I never thought Young Adult’s Fiction would be so dark.

Rowling added a lot of romance stuff though. To offset the sadness and prove Dumbledore’s point about the importance of being able to love, maybe?

I do not recall ever seeing Regulus’ name with the initial of his middle name. Was it mentioned anywhere?

    It’s soo good!
I bought it at midday last night and finished it at about 6.15 the same day. Ye, it’s true, Snape does kill Dumbledore and turns out to be the Half Blood Prince.
In Essence divided… no idea. Maybe he was talking about Harry’s inner conflict, I dunno.
Draco became a Death Eater like in the beginning.
Hermione and Ron hook up but Ron was sooo annoying for a while, I mean duh Hermione snogged Krum it was ages ago it doesn’t mean he had to go jump on Lavender Brown first chance he got. I’m surprised all Hermione did was get those birds to attack him, I would have done a lot more- especially after she was the one who’d got him on the Quidditch team he’d just helped win.
I couldn’t believe Dumbledore died I kept wishing that he would like get back onto his feet or that Snape was tricking the Death Eaters, and when the table on which he lay was englufed in flames I hoped he’d be coming back to life or something. It was sooo sad.

  14. SAR says:

I agree, RAB is Sirius’ brother

  15. Jack says:

This book is extremely upseting, dark and just plain bad. Dumbledore is killed in a twisted dark way that is uncharacteristic of a children’s book. This book sends a message that trust and love is not the way for victory for Dumbledore epitomised it and it was this that lead to his death. It sends a message that love is a weakness and that is why harry asks ginny to stay away from him. Kudos Rowling for mercilessly destroying the very essence that these books had stood for.

  16. diesel says:

Jack, I think you are wrong, as you will see in book 7. The Real message is to hang on to love no matter what happens. As Dumbledore said, one of the weaknesses of Voldermort is to think that death is the worst thing that could happen to a person. I’m positive that HP readers are wise enough to agree with dumbledore. You can kill a person but you can’t kill love.
we’ll all lose our love ones someday. I personally think the death was appropriate.

  17. Diego says:

I think Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince was a good book until the ending, i do not think Dumbledoor should have died or that Snape should have killed him.

  18. SAR says:

I think she wanted Harry to fight primarily on his own in book 7. I was surprised Dumbledore was killed, but such is life. I’ll be interested in seeing how she ties Harry and Ginny back together and what role Neville and the other DA members play in the final episode. Harry says he will not be returning to Hogwart’s…I am sure she will be packing the last book with many adventures with Ron and Hermione and their quest for the remaining portions of Tom Riddle’s soul.

  19. Heather says:

I have a pretty good hunch that we’re not done with Dumbledore for book 7. Wouldn’t surprise me at all if harry went back to the pensieve or time turner, or at least if Dumbledore left hidden more info about the other Horcruxes hidden somewhere… My question is: who is the new headmaster going to be, and will they have a real interest in Harry’s protection and fighting the Death Eaters, or will they be a puppet of the Ministry of Magic?

  20. i know where u live says:

this book is my new favorite in the series
    snape kills dumbledore
    snape is HBP
    sad but funny
    soooooooo worth it

  21. Jase says:

I think Half Blood Prince is the best of the 6 books so far. No obvioious errors that stand out to me. I think it was transparent that Malfoy’s target was Dumbledore, afterall he had Harry at his mercy very early on. I am not ruling out Snape as a Deatheater Yet, I am not sure what the last bit between him and Dumbledore was all about? I think Dumbledore new he was dying and thats why he gave Harry all the necessary information to be able to defeat Voldamort. I also can’t rule out Snape being asked by Dumbledore to take his life. Snape will be in a great position to be Voldamort’s favorite for the next while and pehaps get cules as to where the other hotocrux’s are? Then again he could be the scum that Harry thinks he is. Also it was Snape who deflected the death spell aimed at Harry on the grounds. I am sure Voldamort would not have complained too much if both Dumbledore and Harry Potter were both killed on that night.

    Just a thought

hi .. i was disapointed by the latest Half blood prince book .. it wasnt excitin as the prev ones .. but then it answered lots of questions we all had in our minds.. Now that Dumbledore is dead harry potter is alone to defend the wizardin world from Lord Voldemort . Many ppl expected this would happen and it did. Now that the we also know that there are Horcuxes and stuff. This answers how the diary had a life on its own in the Chamber of Secrets book . I also have come across so many ppl saying that in the last chapterof the final book that JK Rowling has already penned long back harry potter wil not be there .. that is he wil die in the end .. Now i am havin a vague answer to about every thing that seemed to have happend till now .. I think Harry potter is the LAST HORCUXE that lord voldemort had accidently created and therefore harry potter dies makin voldemort mortal .. and then lord voldy dies .. I came to this conclusion based on so many things .. There is always a connection between voldemort and harry from the first book .. he always feels what the lord is upto .. and den the fact that harry dies ( which is still a rumour) in the last book.. Hope that JK is not too obvious abt the endin .. even i pray that wat ever i expected to happen shouldnt happen .. cos it spoils the fun of readin the book ..

i agree wid Jase abt the fact that snape might be a good guy after all . Its pretty obvious that dumbledore wud hv anyway died wid all the death eaters surroundin him .. so think snape wen he killed dumbledore wil make him closer to lord voldemort and there by can help harry by acting as a spy .. lets see..

I am still in a shocked state after reading Harry Potter 6. I actually had held alot of hope that Snape wasn’t a deatheater and now I hate him.
Although I suspected Dumlbedore would die I didn’t actually think it would really happen, and I certainly didn’t think that Snape would do it. I am more shocked by Snapes actions than Dumbledore’s Death.
I also think that we are not through with Dumbledore yet. I have a feeling that since he is burried at Hogwarts that somehow he left a final spell to protect the school as long as he is burried on the grounds, or something along those lines.
I thought the “Spiderman” that Harry pulled with Ginny at the end of the book was completely predictable and lame, didn’t he listen to Dumbledore’s words!! Harry poses the ability to love, which is what sets him apart form Voldemort, Wouldn’t his love for Ginny make him stronger!!! I am very excited for the next book, I have no idea what to expect, Will Hogwarts reopen?, Will Harry really go looking for the Horcruxes?, Is he ready?, Are Hermione and Ron built to last?, Where does Neville fit into all of this.
I was expecting more play off of Neville considering he could have possibly been in Harry’s Position, I predict he will take a greater role in the future, I expected him to in this book but we didn’t see much of him!!
WIll people start to listen to Harry with he is suspicious now??
    I can’t stand the anticipation!!!

  24. Kerri says:

I think that in essence divided refers to Voldemorts soul, because a soul is a persons essence, and his is, obviously, divided.

  25. jerry says:

Dumbledore was pleading to snape up in the tower. But he was pleading for snape to kill him so that way, Voldemort could have his complete trust. That is why the two of them were argueing when hagrid heard them. So in other words, snape is still truely devoted to the good side.
