Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Root Beer Floats, and Poker
Last Saturday, I think it was about 10pm when I went out to play football with Mike and Kipp. Since I have little-to-no football experience, Kipp gave me a ‘5 minute tutorial.’ It helped immensely. I was able to throw, run, catch. It was amazing! If you know me, you know I’m not a sports person at all. But this could be a turnaround. While I still like reading better, I must admit that I had an awesome time playing football. It was casual — none of us are actually any good. But still, I was able to catch the ball for once. It felt great.
After that, Leilani had the idea of going to play volleyball. Although Kedar tried to convince us not to, we prevailed. Volleyball was fun, too. Then we played basketball. And my roommate took out some root beer (I won’t detail how it was ‘acquired’) and ice cream, and with cups provided by Mike and Kipp, we had root beer floats. When we came back to the room, they set up a table and chairs while I went to take a shower in the ‘other’ Mark’s Hall bathroom (the one on the other end of the hall; very far away from my room). It was great. For those who don’t know, the showers in the south side bathroom on the 2nd floor of Marks Hall are much larger, and in much better condition.
When I returned, we played Poker. I’m better at Texas Hold’em than I thought. We played up until about 5am. Although we thought of playing for money, we ended up just playing for chips that didn’t translate into dollars. But it was fun anyway.
Today I played Ping Pong with John and Leilani. I can’t remember the last time I played. But it was a blast. I’m awesome. I love sports where control is required. I have no strength, but I have excellent hand-eye coordination.
Welcome to the “fun” part of school. Seems I remember you played a little tennis too. Don’t forget your raquet – you’ll surprise yourself as to how good you are.
Cheers man I love those card games, win a bit of money ya ya
